  2.                        THE BLUE WAVE OFFLINE MAIL SYSTEM!

  4.     Tired of spending a lot of time online reading and writing messages on
  5.     the BBS?  Ever wish there was a way to spend as much time as you like in
  6.     the message bases (since it always seems like there's *never* enough
  7.     time)?  The Blue Wave Offline Mail System is for you!
  8.  
  9.     What is an offline mail system, you ask?  Simply put, it's a method of
  10.     reading and writing BBS messages on your local system.  You, the user,
  11.     download messages from the BBS message areas of your choice; you then
  12.     use what's called a "mail reader" to read the messages on your system,
  13.     at your leisure.  You can also use the mail reader to post messages and
  14.     replies; these messages are then uploaded to the BBS message areas, just
  15.     as if you'd written them online!

  17.     The Blue Wave Offline Mail System has quickly become one of the most
  18.     popular and user-friendly offline mail systems available... which is
  19.     undoubtedly why your SysOp chose to make it available on this BBS.

  22.     In order to read messages downloaded from the BBS, you will need the
  23.     download the latest version of The Blue Wave Offline Mail Reader.  Three
  24.     different "flavors" are available:
  25.  
  26.         * DOS - Runs on virtually all IBM PC clones.  Requires MS-DOS
  27.                 3.3 or later and at least 512K of RAM.  This is by far
  28.                 the most popular version, and is suitable for most
  29.                 users.
  30.  
  31.         * 386 - Runs on any IBM compatible using an Intel 386, 486,
  32.                 Pentium, or greater CPU.  Requires MS-DOS 3.3 or later
  33.                 and at least 2MB of RAM.  Aimed more at "power users"
  34.                 whose needs require lots of memory.
  35.  
  36.         * OS2 - Runs on any IBM compatible that can run IBM OS/2 2.x or
  37.                 OS/2 Warp.  This is a native OS/2 application that makes
  38.                 use of OS/2's features and resources.

  40.     The latest version can be obtained by looking for "BWxxxDOS.ZIP",
  41.     "BWxxx386.ZIP", or "BWxxxOS2.ZIP" ("xxx" being the version number).

  44.     You will now be taken into the mail door.  The SysOp has defined a
  45.     default archiver (ZIP, ARJ, LZH, etc.) and a default transfer protocol
  46.     (Zmodem, Xmodem, etc.) for you to use in the mail door.  If you wish to
  47.     change these settings, you may do so from the (C)onfiguration menu,
  48.     which will be shown immediately after the default archiver and protocol
  49.     settings are displayed.

  51.     When you are at the (C)onfiguration menu, select (C)hoose Message Areas
  52.     and select the message areas from which you wish to download messages.
  53.     Then, select (Q)uit to return to the Main Menu, and select (D)ownload to
  54.     download your very first mail packet.
